Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse for Hair

Updated: Sep 12, 2021

Why use ACV?

ACV is made from the juice of fermented apples. It is beneficial to your scalp and the cuticles of your hair. The outer layer of the hair shaft, also known as the cuticle, is comprised of tightly packed overlapping scales. The acid mantle in ACV is instrumental in making cuticle scales lie flat and closed, which gives hair a shiny, smooth appearance, and protects from moisture loss. It is highly acidic and has to be diluted with at least 3 parts water to 1 part acv.

ACV balances out the alkalinity from harsh shampoos and hard water which ensures the cuticles of hair retain moisture well. Apple cider vinegar restores the natural pH of the hair, which results in hair that is less prone to tangling and frizz. It also reduces itchiness by preventing dandruff and bacteria infections on the scalp. It is advised to use acv after washing and conditioning as a rinse. Leave in hair for about 5 minutes and rinse off.
